What Makes a Patio Doctor Patio Cover Premium?

High-grade materials, superior engineering, and precision installation create a refined exterior shade system with elevated quality and curb appeal that gives your home a more distinguished look.

Aluminum Frames
Texas-tested strength you can trust.

Designed for long-term durability, the extruded T6 aluminum frames deliver exceptional strength without the risk of rust, rot, or warping, with an anodized finish that resists fading over time.

Polycarbonate Panels
Shade that cuts heat, not natural light.

Our signature Heat-Protectant Lexan Polycarbonate roof panels block 100% of UV rays and reduce heat by up to 83%, creating a cooler, more comfortable space while still allowing natural light underneath.

Integrated Gutter System
Controlled drainage, built-in.

Rainwater is collected along the roof edge and routed through a concealed gutter channel into the downspout system. The result is a cleaner, more controlled way to manage runoff from the covered area.

Embedded Footings
Anchored strength below the surface.

Support posts are set into deep concrete footings below grade, creating a permanent installation designed for long-term structural support. The result is a clean, minimal profile with lasting anchored strength.

Questions?
We've Got Answers.

Find answers to common questions before getting started.

Do I need a permit to install a patio cover?

It depends on your city’s building codes and the size or location of the structure. Some municipalities, like Dallas, detached patio covers under 200 sq ft generally don’t require a building permit, but the accessory structure must still meet setback, easement, and structural requirements. Patio Doctor offers turnkey permitting service, including engineered plans if needed, making the process fully compliant and hassle-free.

Do I need HOA approval for a patio cover?

Many homeowners associations require approval for exterior structures, even if a city permit isn’t needed. Patio Doctor offers a supporting HOA documentation and plan preparation service to assist with your submission. Reviewing HOA guidelines early helps avoid delays or compliance issues.

How long does installation take?

Installation depends on patio cover size and permitting. Small, single-span covers are typically completed in one day, while larger or multi-span structures can take 1–2 days, depending on site conditions and any custom work. If permitting is required, this typically adds one to two days, since work cannot continue until the city completes required inspections. Once inspections pass, Patio Doctor completes the installation.

What site preparation is required?

Our aluminum patio covers are typically installed on concrete footings, or in some cases roof-mounted or hybrid configurations, so the area must be clear, level, and accessible for equipment and materials. Patio Doctor handles site evaluation and coordinates any necessary grading, leveling, or prep, ensuring the structure is properly anchored and stable. Proper preparation is essential for durability, safety, and a smooth installation process.

Can patio covers be customized to fit my property?

Yes, our Japanese aluminum patio covers are highly customizable. They can be designed as freestanding, roof-mounted, or hybrid installations, and adjusted in width, length, height, and roof pitch, with options for gutter placement, panel type, and other layout preferences. Patio Doctor performs on-site refabrication as needed to ensure a precise fit while maintaining engineered strength and structural integrity.

What kind of maintenance is required?

What sets our Japanese aluminum patio covers apart from traditional wood or steel carports is that they are maintenance-free. The anodized, extruded aluminum frame never rusts or needs painting, and polycarbonate panels are UV-protective, durable, and won’t warp or require replacement. Typical cleaning may be done to keep your patio cover looking its best.

How durable are these patio covers?

Our Japanese aluminum patio covers are built for long‑term durability and weather resistance. The anodized extruded aluminum frame resists rust and corrosion, and UV‑protective polycarbonate panels shield outdoor spaces from sun, rain, and hail. These premium aluminum patio covers are designed to last for decades, far outperforming wood or standard steel alternatives.
